Ms Nene is a Research Coordinator in the Multinational Lung Cancer Control Program (MLCCP) under the Cancer and Infectious Diseases Epidemiology Research Unit (CIDERU) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). She manages and coordinates all aspects of the MLCCP Phase 2 activities. She is an experienced researcher with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education sector. Ms Nene’s research experience includes disability studies, HIV prevention, key populations, sexual and reproductive health and rights, mental health, and cancer epidemiology and cancer prevention. Ms Nene has worked in projects funded by Grand Challenges Canada, Global Fund, PEPFAR, Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation (BMSF), UNICEF, NIHM and SADoE. Before joining CIDERU, Ms Nene has worked for the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC); Department of Psychiatry, Nelson R. Mandela School of Medicine; Centre of Excellence in Human Development, University of the Witwatersrand; and Health Economics and HIV/AIDS Research Division (HEARD). Ms Nene holds a Master of Social Sciences (Counselling Psychology) degree from UKZN. She has co-authored articles in local and international peer-reviewed journals and presented poster and oral presentations at various conferences. Ms Nene is currently registered for a Master of Medical Sciences in Public Health degree.
