Research Fellow

Mr Asiamah is currently a doctoral research fellow with the MLCCP initiative at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). He is a licensed Medical Laboratory Scientist and a Faculty Member of the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), in Ghana.  He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology a Postgraduate Diploma in Project Management from the Institute of Commercial Management (ICM-UK), a Master of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences (Cellular Pathology) from the University of Westminster, London and a PhD candidate in Public Health Medicine at UKZN.

Prior to his appointment at UHAS, Mr Asiamah was an adjunct faculty at the Department of Medical Laboratory Technology at both KNUST and Garden City University College, and also practised as a licensed Medical Laboratory Scientist at the Pathology Department of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where he rose to the rank of Deputy Chief Biomedical Scientist. He has extensive experience in teaching, research and consulting in histopathological and cytopathological techniques and other advanced diagnostic application systems such as immunohistochemistry, Insitu Hybridization, flow cytometry, genomics and proteomics, which he had gained over a decade of diagnostic laboratory practice and clinical research, both locally and abroad, including University Hospital of North Norway (UNN), Tromso and the University College London Hospitals (UCLH), Advanced Diagnostics Lab. In addition, he served as the focal technical personnel for the Ghana Breast Health Study (GBHS) Project at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital study site, which was collaborative research between the Ministry of Health and the National Cancer Institutes of the United States of America.

Mr Asiamah has a number of publications in peer-reviewed journals (‪‪ResearchGate; Google Scholar). His main research interest lies in the profiling of novel biomarkers for early detection of lung cancer and other emerging cancers of public health importance in LMICs, notably breast, cervical, prostate, head and neck and colorectal cancers as well as the development of prognostic biomarkers and genomic profiling for targeted therapy. He also pioneered the establishment of the UHAS Pathology Laboratory Consultancy Service Initiative, which, provides diagnostic services to the university community as well as its affiliate, Ho Teaching Hospital (HTH), which has generated vital clinical data for cancer research. He is a Foundation Fellow of the West African Postgraduate College of Medical Laboratory Science (WAPCMLS), a fellow of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists (GAMLS), elected member of the National Society of histotechnology (NSH), USA and a member of African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM) and International Association for the study of Lung Cancer (IASLC).
